Feedback about someone else allows you to do two things:
- Send an assessment of someone’s performance.
- See how someone is working with others.
Assess Someone's Performance
With Feedback about someone else, you can send a coworker coaching information about some aspect of their work. This unsolicited feedback is meant to be constructive to help your coworker improve and grow.
Here's how to do it:
- Click the Feedback button on the Home page, your Profile page, or the Feedback page.
- In the Feedback dialog box, select Feedback about someone else in the Feedback Type field.
- Click the Recipient field and begin typing a coworker's name. Matching names appear as you type. You can type any part of a name: first, last, or middle.
- Click the name you want.
- In the Feedback Action field, select Write.
- Optionally, click the Title field and add a title to your feedback.
- Click the Comment field and write your feedback. There must be at least 21 characters to save your feedback.
- Optionally, if your application has been configured for it, you can add hashtags to your feedback. Available hashtags are displayed under the Comment field. Just click the hashtag to add it.
- Click the Share with field and select one of the following options: the recipient, the recipient's manager, or both.
- Click Submit.
Request Feedback about Someone from Someone Else
If you are a manager, Feedback about someone else also allows you to solicit feedback about someone from someone else in the company.
For example, if one of your direct reports has been working with another group, you may want to gauge how your employee is doing. So you can ask the group how your employee is working with them. This option is not available for users that have no direct reports.
To ask someone about someone else's performance, do this:
- Click the Feedback button on the Home page, your Profile page, or the Feedback page.
- In the Feedback dialog box, select Feedback about someone else in the Feedback Type field.
- In the Feedback Action field, select Request.
- Click the Recipient field and begin typing a coworker's name (this is the person for whom you want feedback). Matching names appear as you type. You can type any part of a name: first, last, or middle. When you find the name you're looking for, click it.
- Click the Request From field and begin typing a coworker's name (this is the person from whom you want feedback). Matching names appear as you type. You can type any part of a name: first, last, or middle. You can add more than one name. When you find the name you're looking for, click it.
- Under Questions for Request, select the preconfigured questions that your feedback providers can answer. This provides structure and consistency to your feedback and makes it easier for feedback providers to give meaningful feedback to you.
- You can optionally add your own question by clicking Add Question, clicking the box, and typing your custom question. Be sure to select the check box to add the new question. Note that you can have a total of 5 questions in any given feedback request.
- Click Next.
- On the next page, you can optionally add a title and description to give some context for your request to your feedback providers.
- Click Submit.
The people from whom you requested feedback will receive requests and can provide their comments.
Example
Jim Halpert's direct report, Michael Scott, has been working with Pam Beesly and Ryan Howard on a special project. Jim wants their opinion of how Michael is doing. So Jim requests feedback from Pam and Ryan about their experience working with Michael.
In this case, the Recipient (in step 4) is Michael Scott, and the people in the Request From field (step 5) are Pam Beesly and Ryan Howard.
