Goals Check-In Overview
What is a Goals Check-In?
A Goals Check-In helps align employees and managers on active goals. To activated this, please answer yes to the question Will employees be evaluated on individual goals? when creating a Check-In. Then the system will pull the goal types that you designate (more on that later) into the check-in form so that both employees and managers can comment on goal progress.
*IMPORTANT: Goal Check-Ins are only enabled if you have purchased Reflektive’s Goals module along with the Check-In/Review platform.
Who Are Involved in the Check-In?
- Manager: People managers will provide a downward feedback to employees who directly report to them.
-
Self: The employee will write a self check-in.
How to Set up a Goals Check-In
Start by going to: Admin > Review > Create New Review
-
Step 1: Review Type
Click on the right icon: Check-In.
In Step 2: Settings, you'll configure how you want your Goals Check-In to work. This is what the full page looks like; we'll go through each section individually.
- Step 2: Settings
More information for each setting can be found by hovering your mouse over the information icon.
The settings chosen in the images below are in accordance to the best practice and recommended settings
-
2.1 What do you want to name this review?
We recommend that you include the time-frame, year, type of the review for future reference, i.e. “Q4 2019 Check-in”.
-
2.2 Will employees write self check-ins?
If any employees will be writing self-reviews, set this to Yes.
-
2.3 Will managers complete check-ins about their direct reports?
If any managers will be evaluating their teams, set this to Yes.
-
2.4 Will employees be evaluated on individual goals?
- Available only if you’ve purchased the Goals Module.
- If the check in survey should include each employee’s current active goals for evaluation, choose Yes.
- Clicking Yes will reveal the Category and Status options.
With Category, you can decide if you want to narrow down the goals pulled into this check-in even further. This is useful when you are creating a check-in that may be only relevant to a specific department or company initiative. Below is an example of potential categories that can appear (you set these up during your initial onboarding period with Reflektive and can update them whenever you'd like.)
With Status, you can decide if you want to narrow down the goals pulled into this check-in even further. We recommend pulling in only Active goals, but we support a variety of situations.
-
2.5 Advanced Options
Under Advanced Options, you can set if you want the kick-off email to be sent from a specific individual or entity. Otherwise, the default would be the name of your company followed by Check-In. For example, if your company was called "Supercompany", people would see "Supercompany Check-In" in their inboxes.
The final part of Advanced Options would be "Which report tabs should be available for employees in their final review results?" This determines which tab will appear on the employee's final report. Question Breakdown displays the details for each question, Overall Summary aggregates all the scores for the rating questions and produces an average score, and Competencies further breaks down the summary of competencies from the overall summary section.
- Available only if you’ve purchased the Goals Module.
- If the check in survey should include each employee’s current active goals for evaluation, choose Yes.
- Clicking Yes will reveal the Category and Status options.

Special Notes:
1. Will this performance feedback be anonymous?
- This is not an option since there isn’t any peer or direct report writing reviews for the employee, Anonymity setting is not offered or relevant in the Check-in cycle.
2. Allow managers to release final results to their employees?
- This is defaulted to a one step release from the survey.
- As soon as the manager clicks Done, the manager feedback is instantly shared with the employee.
